Have you ever known someone named JOY? I have known several people with the name JOY. Now I’m sure there are exceptions but the ones that I have known haven’t disappointed me that they were named JOY.
I wonder if it would be the same for us if our name was JOY? Would we bring honor or dishonor to the name JOY?
JOY comes from the Greek meaning, “I rejoice.” JOY in Latin means, “Rejoice.” JOY in Old French means, JOY.
Let me share with you some things that I don’t think we would want to known for if our name was JOY.
I don’t think we would want to be known as merely the court jester. I don’t think we would want to be known as a foolish giggler. I don’t think we would want to be known as the one who laughs obnoxiously.
On the other hand I don’t think we would want to be known for a face that would crack if we smiled. I don’t think we would want to known for having a sour looking face. I don’t think we would want to be known as someone stressed out with worry.
So what would we want to be known for if our name was JOY? Those I have known with the name JOY have always been a delight to know. I have enjoyed their company. I have found them to be happy. My experience with them has been pleasant. I have found that they lived up to their name JOY.
Take some time with me to consider what we would want to be like if our name was JOY. I think we would want to active, blissful, content, delightful, elation, friendly, gratification, happiness, interesting, jubilation, kind, loving, motivated, nice, orderly, pleasant, quality, radiance, satisfaction, triumph, uniqueness, virtue, worry free, xtraordinary, yielding, and zestful.
Wow! Is it any wonder that a lot of us find it difficult and virtually impossible and are maybe even thankful that our names are not JOY>
Don’t throw in the towel. There is help. We are not alone. Jesus didn’t come to get us swimming only to watch us drown. Jesus saves us so we can be clean, fresh, new, and pristine through Him. He promises to “YOKE” together with us. Matthew 11:28-30 He promises to send us help. John 14:15-18 He promises us that Her came for the purpose of providing us with His JOY> John 15:11
JOY is not the outcome of a name nor is it the product of conduct. JOY is the result of JESUS OWNING YOU.
