While we were on our vacation our grandson Blake made this comment. When we had settled into our lodging on Saturday evening and he asked where we would be going to church on Sunday. So we told him that we would be attending the church in Gatlinburg and he responded “Good, I need some God time.”

Even though he is only nine years old, he always amazes me and often humbles me with his feelings about God.

I’m sure we all feel the same way when we hear our youngsters make references to God and indicate their desire to be close to Him. Certainly this is a huge reason behind Jesus saying,

“Let the little children come to Me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 19:14

The innocence of children and their sincerity in wanting to be close to God should serve as a reminder of how we should feel about our need for God. Jesus reminds us of this when He said, “Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 18:4

Another thing that Jesus makes very clear is the importance of gathering together with one another, “For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there I am among them.” Matthew 18:20

The early believers reveal that one of the best ways to spend time with God is to be “Together” that’s why, “They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to breaking of bread and the prayers.” Acts 2:42

They also show that by being “Together” their “Common” bond in the Lord increased as they were “Selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need.” Acts 2:44-45

By doing this they were actually meeting their own need to spend time with God by being compassionate and loving toward one another.

In addition to gathering together to hear God’s word and worship and to provide for the needs of one another the early believers spent time “Day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes” and as they “Received food with glad and generous hearts” and were “Praising God and having favor with all the people. The Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.” Acts 2:46-47

From a simple statement of a child and the affirmative teaching of the scriptures it appears to be very apparent that one of the best ways to spend time with God is to gather together with other believers.
