Do we really need to bother with it? Is it really something that should matter to us? Why can’t we take life as it comes? Doesn’t everyone like riding a merry-go-round ride and roller coaster?

If you got on a plane or ship and asked the pilot/captain what their destination was and they couldn’t tell you would you stay on board?

I remember hearing about a couple who were driving around aimlessly and when they finally realized that they were lost the wife said; “I know we are lost, but we’re making good time.”

It reminded me of the time that I heard about an archer who would shoot his arrows and once they were shot he would go an draw a target around them and ironically he always made a bull’s-eye!

On the other hand there are a lot of people who go through life trying one adventure after another and never settling for any. You might call them “Samplers” because they’re like someone who goes into an ice cream parlor and tries all the flavors but never settles for any.

Is this really how life was meant to be lived? Is it God’s plan that we would live our lives without any destiny or direction in mind? The answer is CERTAINLY NOT!

God created us to have purpose in our lives. He did not create us to go through life with our heads in the clouds and dreaming. Life wasn’t meant to be a long list of wishes. God created us with intelligence so we could make decisions and choose a direction for our life. The Bible calls it “The Path of Life” and this week’s Bible readings help us to understand God’s will about it.

Jesus, in His teachings also reminds us about the importance of having a clean and clear vision in our life. So we won’t be consumed with all the distractions of the world. Matthew 6:22-24

Sadly, far too many people go through life without any real purpose or reason for living and this is a result of the blindness that has overcome them because of the darkness that is in the world.

So how can we prevent this from happening to us?

We must choose a captain/pilot who can and will lead us into life. John 10:7-10

The one we select must have credentials that back their claim to lead us. Ephesians 4:8-10

They must have made their journey through life with a fulfilled objective. John 17:1-3

They must not be someone who has falsified their abilities but have witnesses. 1 John 1:1-4

They must not be someone who dabbled as a “Sampler” but who had conviction. Luke 22:41-42

When you add it all up is there really anyone else to follow in life then JESUS?

He will help us set our course for life now and bless us with life eternally. John 14:1-6

He will also help us to know the joy of living as we follow His example in life. John 15:11
