When I was a scout, at first I thought marching was monotonous but I quickly learned the importance, joy and value of it. I can remember as our troop marched our scout master would sing the song Follow Me. The song helped us stay in step and the words helped us accomplish our objective.

Follow me boys, follow me. When you think you’re really beat, that’s the time to lift your feet and follow me boys, follow me. Pick’em up, Put’em down and follow me. Pick’em up, Put’em down and follow me.

There’s a job to do. There’s a fight to win. Follow me boys, follow me. And it won’t be time till we all pitch in, Lift up your chin with a grin and follow me.

Follow me boys, follow me. Pick’em up, Put’em down and follow me. Pick’em up, Put’em down and follow me.

It’s a long, long climb, but we’ve got the will, Follow me boys, follow me. When we reach the top, then it’s all downhill, till you drop don’t stop, follow me.

Follow me boys, follow me. Pick’em up, Put’em down and follow me. Pick’em up, Put’em down and follow me.

So the journey’s end is beyond our sight, Follow me boys, follow me. If we do our best then we’ve done alright, pack your load, hit the road and follow me boys, follow me.

Follow me boys, follow me. Pick’em up, Put’em down and follow me. Pick’em up, Put’em down and follow me.

Leadership is critical when it comes to marching. If we all marched to the beat of our own drum we would be out of step with one another and our achievements would be limited. On the other hand when we follow the cadence of a leader we will achieve tremendous things because we are united.

Those of you who have marched as Soldiers, Scouts, Band members etc. know the effectiveness of marching and how it teaches discipline and comradeship.

As we think of MARCHING FOR THE MASTER through the month of March let’s consider how we can all be more disciplined to follow His orders and do our best to become closer in our comradeship as we fight the battle with sin that is in the world about us.
