Grace upon grace.

“From His fullness we have all received, grace upon grace.” John 1:16

“Now Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour. And a lame man from birth was being carried, whom they laid at the gate of the temple that is called the Beautiful Gate to ask alms of those entering the temple. Seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple, he asked to receive alms. And Peter directed his gaze at him, as did John, and said, “Look at us.” And he fixed his eyes on them, expecting to receive something from them. But Peter said, “I have no silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!” Acts 3:1-6

This is a great “act of grace” that we can do for others. When we give someone “silver and gold” we provide temporary relief but when we give the message of Jesus we may very well save a soul eternally. The old adage “You can fish for a man and feed him for a day but if you teach him how to fish you will feed him for a lifetime.” This is certainly true when it comes to meeting the needs of others. Giving a piece of bread or a drink of water may address a need for a moment but sharing the bread of life and the living water will benefit others forever.

Grace is meant to be given away.

The song, Love is like a lucky penny teaches this truth. It says, “Love is like a lucky penny, hold it tight and you won’t have any but give it away and you’ll end up with plenty.” This is certainly true about grace.  Once grace has saved us we should want to share it with others. It’s like one beggar finding bread and telling others where they can find bread, but again the bread we are sharing is the grace of God that will feed hungry souls.

Grace is something to be shared with others.

The apostle Paul said, “I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts 20:24) Paul wasn’t known as the apostle of grace by accident. He knew firsthand what it was to be a sinner and to be saved by God’s grace. He also knew that everyone needed God’s grace and for them to receive it those who had it needed to share it. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified by His grace as a gift…” Romans 3:23-24

Grace will win more thankful souls when shared with the world.

“As grace extend to more and more people it may increase thanksgiving, to the glory of God.” 2 Corinthians 4:15

Let’s make it our aim to live by the motto, GRACE UPON GRACE.
