Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.” John 6:28-29
Believing in Jesus doesn’t come by accident nor is it a chance happening.
Believing in Jesus isn’t something gained through the influence of others nor is it inherited.
Believing in Jesus takes WORK!
Jesus said, “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” John 8:31-32
When Peter proclaimed the first gospel message on the day of Pentecost those who “Heard…Were cut to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?”
“Those who received his word were baptized…And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.”Acts 2:37-42
The Jews at Berea “Were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if the things were so.” Acts 17:11
“Faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of God.” Romans 10:17
For us to hear God’s word we must listen to it when it is being proclaimed and taught or we must open our Bibles and read the words and take time to study God’s word so we can believe in Jesus and accomplish His WORK!
Belief takes WORK but sadly most people are unwilling to do the work and that’s why so many do not believe in Jesus. It is also a huge reason why there are so many unfaithful believers in the Lord’s church because far too many are unwilling to do the WORK!
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a WORKER who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.” 2 Timothy 2:15
“All scriptures is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be competent, equipped for every good WORK.”2 Timothy 3:16-17
“Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” James 1:22
“A doer who acts, he will be blessed in his doing.” James 1:25
“What good is it my brothers, if someone says he has faith but does not have WORKS?”

Don and his wife Brenda have been married 48 years. They have two married sons Jason/Crista and Nicholas/Heather and four grandsons Luke, Ryker, Blake and Drew. Don is a graduate of the Gateway School of Preaching, Fairview Heights, IL, the Bristol Roads School of Biblical Studies, Flint, MI and he has a bachelor’s degree in religious education from Michigan Christian College. He has been preaching since 1979. He has preached at Pacific, MO; Howell, MI; Arnold, MO; Festus, MO; Dexter, MO; and De Soto, MO where he has served since 2007.
