WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE A SERVANT?

The obvious answer is someone who serves.

Consider some who serve others. Airline attendants, Bankers, Carpenters, Doctors, Electricians, Fire Fighters, Government employees, Home makers, Insurance agents, Janitors, Kennel keepers, Lawyers, Mechanics, Nurses, Parents, Store clerks/operators, Teachers, Utility workers, Veterans, Waiters, X-ray technician, Yard workers, and Zoo keepers.

Form this small sample of occupations and people who serve how do you evaluate their effectiveness?

How would you evaluate your effectiveness when it comes to being as servant and does it compare to the standard that you hold others accountable?

What does it really and truly mean to be a servant?

A servant is a person who performs duties for others.

A servant is also a devoted and helpful follower or supporter.

The idea of servant hood is to humble one’s self, submit to God, and meet the needs of others.

The lyrics from our song of the month are “Make me a servant Lord make me like You, For You are a servant make me one to. Make me a servant do, what You must do to make me a servant, make me like You.”

The second verse helps us learn how we become God’s servants. “To be a servant, to be just like You, I humble my spirit, I bow before You. Make me a servant, do what You must do, to make me a servant, make me like You!”

Servant hood doesn’t always come natural. Often our pride gets in the way. To be servants we must lose this attitude and accept God’s plan for us.

Throughout this month we will be examining various attributes about being a servant. I know we have several who demonstrate a servant disposition and that is one of the things that makes the De Soto church of Christ so special, but I also know from my own life that there is always room for growth. So as we focus on being servants this month I would like to encourage everyone to really and truly examine our own lives and see how we are being servants. I would also like to challenge all of us to look closely and see the areas that we could grow and be the best servant for God that we can be so we will be pristine through Christ in 2019.
