Don’s Delivery: THOUGHTS FOR TODAY’S YOUTH
It has been said, “You can’t put an old head on young shoulders.”
There may be a certain element of truth in this statement, but there
is also a lot of evidence where many young people have learned from
the advice and examples of their elders.

The real issue isn’t; can young people learn from those who are older,
But will they? Some young people choose to be mavericks and they rebel
against everything that is associate with their older generation.
There are also young people who choose to glean from the education and
experiences of their older generation.

Rehoboam, Solomon’s son was one of those who rejected the consul of
those who were the older generation. Instead of heeding their time
tested instructions accepted the instructions of his younger peers and
the outcome for him and the nation of Israel was devastating. 1 Kings
12:6-19

Josiah, the sixteenth king of Judah, whose name means, “Jehovah Heads”
at a very young age became king and he learned quickly that it was
very beneficial to listen to the consul of seasoned veterans in his
kingdom. Because of this he was able to bring about profound
restoration in the nation and the people’s relationship with God. 2
Kings 22:1-2, 11-13, 2 Kings 23:3, 21-25

So, what would be some beneficial and healthy advise for young people
today from an old head like me?
First, Put God first in your life. Ecclesiastes chapter 12
Second, Stop thinking you know everything. You don’t an no one else
does. Only God is omniscient.
Third, Don’t think you are putting yourself down when you ask for
advice or instructions from others especially your elders. It is a
very respectful thing to do and it actually reveals wisdom on your
part.
Fourth, Be willing to learn from the education, experience and even
mistakes of others. This can be very constructive and also help a lot
of people, especially young ones avoid some devastating decisions.
