Don’s Delivery: “DAVID”
No name, of any man is noted in the Old Testament Scriptures or
revered more and it is clear to see why, it means, “BELOVED” or
CHIEFTAIN”/“LEADER.”
This eighth son of Jesse, grandson of Obed, great grandson of Boaz by
his Moabite wife Ruth and great great grandson of Salmon by his wife
from Jericho, Rahab is listed in the genealogy of Jesus. Matthew 1:5-6
He is one of the great heroes of Israel. Every child who has had any
exposure to the Biblical lessons of old has heard about the courage of
David and how he slew lions, bears, and the Philistine giant Goliath.
1 Samuel 17:34-36, 48-50 Anyone who has read the Bible has learned of
the victory chant that the people would sing about him when he
returned from battle. “Saul has struck down thousands, and David his
ten thousand.” 1 Samuel 18:6-7 As the second anointed king of Israel
he battled through many conflicts within and without and he organized
the kingdom of God’s people so they became a glorious nation. When his
son Solomon ruled after him the queen of Sheba came and saw the
greatness of the nation and said, “Behold, the half was not told me.
Your wisdom and prosperity surpass the report that I heard.” 1 Kings
10:6-7
David, was not only God’s champion and great king in the Old
Testament. David was also a musician and poet who wrote the majority
of the Psalms including the twenty third Psalm that has been read at
more funerals and has brought more comfort to people during times of
struggles than any other piece of literature.
All this being noted it is hard to believe that the skeptics and
unbelievers have denied the very existence of David. But Biblical
Archaeologist have discovered overwhelming evidence that David did
live. Even the city of Gath, the home place of Goliath has been
verified and ironically by a ten year old boy.
