Don’s Delivery: WHEN I SEE THE BLOOD

Many panic and become squeamish at the sight of blood. Some faint or
become ill at the sight of blood. Others see blood as the means to aid
others in time of illness. One of the things about blood that we
should all reflect upon is that blood is the issue of life and without
it we cannot live. We need blood to move nutrition and oxygen through
our bodies as well as remove waste from it. Seeing blood helps have a
great sense of value for life.

Blood, has a way of getting our attention. It does it at the birth of
a child. It does it when we’re young and we injure ourselves and we
see that we are bleeding. For us who are older and have given blood as
a donor we experience a certain appreciation and respect for the
importance of blood. If we encounter an accident where there is blood
we are quickly alerted to the seriousness of the situation. Those who
have served as doctors, nurses, military personnel or other
professions that that come in contact with blood on a more regular
basis develop a greater understanding of its worth. When we experience
the passing of a loved one and are aware of the blood ceasing to flow
through the body it brings a sober awareness of the need of blood for
one to live.

When I look to the cross of Jesus and see His scourged body hanging
there with blood flowing from His back, brow, feet and side I see the
deep agony He went through to take away our sins. I also see the grief
of the Father as He turned away, not from His Son, but from the horror
of the scene. I see pain like no other had ever bore. I see suffering
that would cause all others to succumb and falter, but He endured as
a lamb silent for the slaughter. I see death that demonstrates to the
world His love for all. I see the purchasing price paid for the
salvation of all who would accept His gift and believe in Him for
eternal life. Luke 22:39-44; John 3:16; 19:31-37; Acts 20:28;
Revelation 7:9-17

Every “Lord’s Day” we have an opportunity to partake of “The Lord’s
Supper.” We eat of the unleavened bread and drink of the fruit of the
vine “In Remembrance Of Him.” When we do this He instructs us to
“Remember His Death Till He Comes Again.” In this age old message He
is directing us to SEE THE BLOOD! 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
