A lot of people don’t. Many have told me, “I have read the Bible, I have even read it through several times, but I don’t understand it.” Do you feel this way?

Is it because the Bible is too difficult to understand when we read it? The Bible is written on an elementary level and you might think that everyone who reads the Bible would be able to understand it, but this is far from the truth.

The Bible must be studied to be understood. Time must be spent examining the holy scriptures for us to understand them. We must take time to learn the Why, from understanding the Who, Whom, Where, When, What and How within the various books, chapters, and text before we can really understand the Bible.

The Bible must be learned for us to understand it. We cannot approach the Word of God with our own conclusions or preconceived ideas. If we are to obtain accurate understanding of the Bible we must allow the message to lead us into understanding.

Over the past few weeks we have been examining lessons on, “WHAT I HAVE LEARNED FROM BIBLE CLASSES AND BIBLE STUDY.” I began these lessons by stating, “A Lot!” This has not happened by accident or by chance. It has occurred by a lot of reading, studying and teaching the
Bible.

Teaching the Bible is a huge part in understanding the Bible. A lot of people are content in being casual readers of the Bible. Many people are satisfied with sitting in Bible study and having someone else share what they have learned about the Bible. Then there are those who become teachers.

Many Bible teachers have told me, “I learned more about the Bible when I started teaching it.” This is true of most subjects. When a person enters the realm of teaching, if they are going to be a good teacher they will read and study vigorously so they can teach with understanding.

This week we are going to have our yearly appreciation dinner for our Bible teachers and deservingly so. We should all take the time to express our appreciation regularly for those who take the time to be our Bible teachers.
